Messy Play

Messy Play / Art Recipes

I was a kindergarten teacher before I had my children, I trained at Bethlehem Tertiary Institute and finished in 2004. I worked at Shalom Kindergarten for 2 1/2 years and loved every minute of it. I then worked at KidzZone Preschool for 1 year.

I gained quite a few messy play recipes from my time working and thought you would like to try some of them out.

CORNFLOUR GLOOP

Cornflour

water

food colouring

Tip alot of cornflour into a bowl.

add a tiny bit of water, and I mean tiny.

mix, it if is still dry, add another little bit of water.

you want all the cornflour to be wet but when it is sitting in the bowl it feels hard, but when you pick it up its is all dribbly.

it is a very hard consistency to explain, you will just need to try it out for yourself.

Make sure your child is wearing a art apron as this can be VERY messy.

.

LUX FLAKES GLOOP

Lux Flakes

Water

Egg beater

Colouring

Add lux flakes, colouring and a bit of water to a BIG bowl.

Mix, and Mix, and mix.

depending on how much water you put in will depend on how thick the bubbles are.

Definitly need an art apron or a shower for this one.

.

Or if you dont want to have a huge mess, just stick the kids in the bath with the messy play and then clean up is a breeze.

.

HOME MADE PUFF PAINT

Self-raising flour

Salt

Water

Colouring

Mix equal amounts of each together.

When picture is painted, microwave for 10 – 25 seconds or until cooked.

.

SAND CEMENT

Mix together equal parts of sand, flour and water.

Stir well.

The cement can be used as a base for collage with natural material if applied thickly.

Dry over night.

.

SAWDUST MODELING

1 cup wallpaper paste

2 cups sawdust

Put the wallpaper paste into a bowl and add the sawdust.

Add enough water to form the modelling dough.

Mix well.
